Bearing steel is a key material for manufacturing balls, rollers and bearing rings. It possesses high and uniform hardness, excellent wear resistance and high elastic limit. This steel type has strict requirements for the uniformity of chemical composition, the content and distribution of non-metallic inclusions, and the morphology and distribution of carbides. It is regarded as one of the steel types with the most stringent production standards among all steel types.

Considering the chemical composition, performance, processing and application, bearing steel can be divided into four types: fully hardened bearing steel, carburized bearing steel, stainless steel bearing steel and high temperature bearing steel.

Bearing steel bars are mainly used to manufacture the balls, rollers and rings of rolling bearings. They are also widely applied in the production of precision measuring tools, cold working molds, machine tool lead screws (such as molds, gauges, taps), and precision coupling components of diesel engine oil pumps, among other key components.
Taking a typical steel type as an example: GCr15 bearing steel is commonly used to manufacture engine bearings for automobiles, tractors, tanks, aircraft, etc., as well as main shaft bearings for machine tools, motor bearings, and various bearings in railway vehicles, mining machinery, and general machinery. While GCr15SiMn bearing steel is mainly suitable for manufacturing bearings with larger wall thicknesses, such as various large and extra-large bearings, and is mostly used in heavy machine tools and rolling mills without strong impact loads.
